Growth Mindset for Kids: What should you do?
Description
Story (toned down) from book The Family Flywheel: "It always seemed like that my friends and I were primed for success. I grew-up in suburban neighborhood and there were about ten kids that became my friends. We went to the same church. We went to same schools. We played in streets almost every day. We regularly played video games and board games together. Our families all had about same amount of money. We all have two parents at home. We were all living the American middle-class lifestyle. After high school we all went our separate ways, and that is when things started to go off the rails. As we grew older, I went to college, got married, got an engineering degree, had four kids, and started a business. One friend became a lawyer, got married, and then got a divorce. One had six kids, had serious health issue, and worked a blue-collar job on a logistics company. One started a construction company and had four kids. And one was sentenced in prison for abuse of a twenty-year-old woman. Wait! What! I had become a little numb to the divorces, but I was shocked when my friend went to prison for abusing someone." How did they turn out so differently? The examples above represent extreme cases, where life-altering circumstances may have influenced their trajectories. However, is it conceivable that their series of choices also played a significant role in shaping their outcomes? In the meantime, what essential skills kids should learn these days?
