Use a little hand soap if necessary. ②Make sure you use the friction disk under the large plastic nut. push the bolts through while the tank is off. May need to turn them as you push, but they they do fit snug. ③Make sure that the nipples are pushed right the way through into the tank before seating the tank. ④Carefully sit the tank onto the toilet, wiggle it slightly to help place it. ⑤Check all three areas of the gasket BETWEEN the tank and toilet, to make sure that the nipples are not showing. ⑥Thread the washers and nuts onto the three bolts. You may need to press down on the bolts to get enough thread through. ⑦Press the tank down firmly near each bolt as you hand tighten the nuts. ⑧Check between the tank and toilet again to make sure the nipples aren't showing, and the gasket is flush to toilet and tank. ⑨Press down on the top of each bolt, and hand tighten the nut, going from one bolt to the next to make sure you tighten evenly. ⑩After going around the three bolts a number of times hand tightening, finish with a quarter turn of a wrench on each nut.
