Set Contains: While the director's cut is sure to garner the most attention, Alexander has also been released in its original theatrical version for those who want the version they saw in theaters. One drawback, however, is that the movie is split over two discs. On the director's cut, the film is complete on one disc. Presumably the theatrical cut is beyond the capacity of one disc because it's eight minutes longer (175 to 167). The commentary is a combination of tracks by director Oliver Stone and by film consultant and Alexander biographer Robin Lane Fox, who provides praise for the production and further historical details. Some of Stone's remarks are the same as on the commentary for the director's cut, but some are unique to this version. Other extra features are the same as on the director's cut. Three documentaries (80 minutes total) collect behind-the-scenes footage, interviews (mostly with the crew), and some effects notes. They're rather indistinguishable from each other and might have been edited into a shorter, tighter single unit. There's also a four-minute featurette of composer Vangelis at his keyboard discussing his craft. --David Horiuchi
